Getting up to HD quality would just be a matter of upgrading your monitor panel. In the end, the image on the wall is just a reproduction of what’s being displayed from the monitor, scaled up much bigger. The better the monitor, the better the image.I made a projector a few years back, with a cheap 15″ VGA lcd monitor. The image turned out pretty decent for what it was. I was throwing about a 12′ (feet) image on my wall. I imagine a modern day 19″ or bigger HD display would be amazing.

Nifty little build you rigged up there, friend! :) Have you considered constructing an enclosed housing for the light path? The issue with the overhead setup like you have is there is that so much luminosity is escaping from the projector before hitting the throw lens. An enclosure yields a much brighter image, as the more light is maintained before being projected. Cool starter project tho!
